this morning…
South Florida has no true elevation changes. It’s a fairly flat area. Where the ground dips, water collects. Walking on flat ground doesn’t help one really prepare for backpacking in the mountains, but it is all I have to work with.
This morning is one of my walking days. Since I’m still well out of shape from my ongoing tendonitis, I am working on walking time, rather than distance. I left my house at 11:15 and didn’t return until 1:15. I could have walked further, but I didn’t want to push it. Not today. Not when I have months before my first section hike.
I tried to stay off the well-beaten path. Instead I walked across the Ridge. I walked on sandy horse trails. I walked across fields. My path may have been flat, but it wasn’t necessarily smooth.
